Head-to-head
Kartra vs Shopify
Pick Shopify when you need a catalog, inventory and Shop Pay. Pick Kartra when a course or membership should live with pages, email and checkout.
Quick answer
Pick Kartra if you sell a course, coaching offer or membership through launch funnels and want pages, email, checkout, affiliates and member portals on one login without running a product catalog; pick Shopify if you need a real store with unlimited products, inventory locations and Shop Pay at the center.
You are choosing between a launch stack and a store. Kartra bundles pages, email, checkout, courses and affiliates. Shopify is the commerce engine: a product list, stock locations and the store checkout.
If you are not sure which of those you need, the six-question funnel tool picker separates a marketing stack from an online store before you start either subscription.
Side by side
The two tools you are choosing between, plus one more worth knowing if you run paid ads.
| Tool | Free trial | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Kartra | 14 days | Established coaches and creators who want pages, email, checkout and memberships in one account |
| Shopify | 3 days | Merchants who need a catalog, stock locations and Shop Pay |
| ElasticFunnels | 14 days, no card | Teams running paid traffic |
What you are really choosing between
Shopify vs Kartra: when the store is the product
You want one subscription, and you want to know whether that subscription is a store or a launch stack.
Kartra's plans page sells a bundled platform: page builders, email, checkouts, memberships, helpdesk, video hosting and affiliate management under the same account. A course, a coaching offer or a membership is the offer that account is built around. The entry plan allows one product. The next plan lifts that cap.
Shopify's pricing page describes a store: unlimited products on every plan, stock in more than one place, and checkout. Shop Pay is described on the checkout page as recognizing 100 million-plus users by email or device, so a returning buyer can pay in one tap. That 100 million figure is Shopify's.
Checkout customization is the line that surprises someone who wanted a direct-response cart. Below Plus, that customization is limited. Plus is the plan that lists a fully customizable checkout. A developer on r/shopifyDev describes Shopify as a stable commerce engine, with the marketing tools added around it.
On the Kartra side, a 2025 comment on r/EcommerceWebsite calls the interface clunky and describes small bugs that kept showing up. The bundle is wide. The builder is what that comment complains about. Treat it as one person's experience. Use the free period before a launch that depends on those pages.
Affiliate management on Kartra starts with Growth, alongside the automations. A catalog business that needs those partner tools is buying a different product from the store subscription.
Where each one wins and loses
Kartra
What works
- One platform genuinely replaces the stack. You get pages and funnels, email and SMS, checkout, memberships, courses, a calendar, a helpdesk and an affiliate program under a single login. They share one database, so a sale and its follow-up email stay on the same customer record. Reviewers single out the detailed analytics and how convenient built-in affiliate management and payments are once everything sits in one place.
- Checkout and memberships are strong for selling knowledge. The checkout supports upsells, coupons and several payment processors, and the membership and course tools host your content and drip it out. For a coach selling a course or a membership, that is the core job done without plugins.
- No transaction fees on the main plans. Starter and the higher tiers charge 0% on sales. Essentials charges 5% on sales.
- The drag-and-drop builders, more than 100 ready-made campaigns, and Kartra AI let a creator publish a funnel, emails and a checkout in a few hours, without hiring a developer.
- You can try it before a long commitment. Kartra has a 14-day trial page and a 30-day trial page. A subscription payment can be refunded within 30 days. A card is required to create the account, and billing support says the trial fee is non-refundable.
What to watch
- Bugs across the builders are the top complaint. Long-term reviewers describe a page builder that malfunctions, with frequent logouts and glitches in the email, page and membership tools. It is usable, but expect rough edges, and some reviewers feel updates polish the surface while core problems linger.
- Getting a reply from a person is the slow part. Kartra's contact page offers an assistant at any hour, and you can be transferred to a person in that chat. The page lists no phone number. Trustpilot reviews through 2025 still describe chats that never start and tickets that take a day or longer.
- It is overkill for beginners. Kartra bundles eight to twelve tools. If you only need one or two, you still pay for the whole set and still have to learn your way around it. Reviewers repeatedly say beginners find it overwhelming. They point those readers toward simpler, cheaper tools. It pays off for established businesses that use most of the bundle.
- The entry plan offers very little and carries a fee. Essentials looks cheap, but it caps you at 500 contacts and 5 pages while charging a 5% transaction fee. Unlimited pages, zero transaction fees and video hosting start on Starter. Automations and affiliates start on Growth.
- Kartra hosts your pages, and those pages cannot be exported. Everything lives on Kartra's servers. If you leave, set aside time to rebuild the pages. Your contacts export as a CSV file, and your pages stay behind.
Shopify
What works
- Every plan includes unlimited products, and inventory management comes with them.
- The three plans under Plus include 10 stock locations. Plus lists 200, which widens the warehouse map.
- Shop Pay lets a returning buyer pay in one tap. The checkout page puts the recognized-user count at 100 million-plus.
- The free trial lasts three days, which is long enough to open the admin and look at checkout.
What to watch
- Checkout customization is limited on every plan below Plus. Plus is the plan that calls the checkout fully customizable.
- Skipping Shopify Payments adds a 2% fee when another processor takes the sale.
- A developer describes the product as a stable commerce engine, so a multi-step launch usually means an app or a higher plan.
- The plan list covers a store. A course library and an affiliate manager are not on it.
What they cost
Price the job you will still be doing after the first launch.
Kartra's plans run Essentials, then Starter, then Growth. Essentials is the sticker people set beside a store subscription, and it is a poor stand-in for a working funnel: 500 contacts, 5 pages, 1 product and a 5% cut of each sale. Starter is $119 a month, or $99 a month billed annually, with 2,500 contacts, unlimited pages, products and courses, webinars, video hosting, five team seats and no Kartra percentage on sales. Growth is $229 a month, or $189 a month billed annually, with 12,500 contacts, automations, affiliate management, funnel simulation, helpdesk and ten team seats.
On Shopify, the four plan names are Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus. The subscription amounts follow the visitor's currency. Every plan includes unlimited products. The three plans under Plus include 10 stock locations. Plus lists 200. Skipping Shopify Payments adds a 2% fee when another processor takes the sale. Checkout customization stays limited until Plus, which lists a fully customizable checkout.
A store that also wants launch pages often adds a page app and an upsell app on top of the Shopify subscription. That stack is the fair comparison with Kartra Starter, where email, pages and checkout already share the subscription. Growth is the Kartra row when affiliates have to live in the same account. Plus is the Shopify row when the checkout itself has to be rebuilt.
Paid Kartra plans list 14 days free, and the plans page advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee. Shopify's trial is three days.
| Kartra | Shopify | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry plan | Essentials $59/mo ($52/mo annual): 500 contacts, 5 pages, 1 product, 5% on sales | Basic. Amounts follow the visitor's currency |
| Working plan | Starter $119/mo ($99/mo annual), or Growth $229/mo ($189/mo annual) | A plan under Plus, plus any funnel apps |
| Platform fee | 5% on Essentials, 0% from Starter | 2% if you skip Shopify Payments |
| Catalog | 1 product on Essentials, unlimited from Starter | Unlimited products on every plan |
| Stock locations | Products and courses, no location count | 10 below Plus; 200 on Plus |
| Checkout | Hosted checkout in the account | Shop Pay. Customization limited below Plus |
| Courses | One on Essentials, unlimited from Starter | Not on the plan list |
| Affiliates | Growth | Not on the plan list |
| Trial | 14 days free, plus a 30-day money-back guarantee | 3 days free |
A third option, if you run paid ads
A team buying clicks has a third job. The ad, the test and the order have to share a record, and the warehouse still ships from Shopify.
ElasticFunnels is a funnel platform for teams that run paid traffic: affiliates, product vendors, agencies and ecommerce brands. For a store that already ships its own orders, the useful piece is how a paid sale lands in Shopify. Native order sync creates each paid order in the Shopify store, with the customer, the SKU, the shipping and the tax. It merges the main sale and the upsells from one funnel into one Shopify order on a timer, and it carries refunds over. A full refund cancels the order. A partial refund creates a Shopify refund, so the store's shipping apps can pack one parcel.
Same-URL split testing is why paid-traffic teams look at the platform. Variants rotate on the server under one campaign link, so Meta, Google and TikTok keep the learning already on that link. An AI builder can generate a page from a prompt or clone one from a URL. The hosted checkout can take an order bump, a one-click upsell and a subscription. Sessions, orders, rebills and refunds share a timeline that the CRM, the automations and the call center also read.
Buyers can pay on that checkout through Stripe, NMI, PayPal, Klarna or Authorize.net, or be sent to Shopify Checkout or Shop Pay. Stripe, PayPal, Klarna and Authorize.net each connect as a single account. A split across several merchant accounts applies to NMI only, and the upsell stays on the account that took the first sale.
Every feature is on every plan. The plans differ by page views, brands, domains, team seats and automation runs. Starter is $97 a month for 50,000 page views, Growth is $197 a month for 250,000, and Scale is $497 a month for 500,000. Paid yearly, those totals are $937, $1,891 and $4,771. Extra page views are billed, and the account stays on its plan. Bot, datacenter and test traffic is not counted. Revenue through ElasticFunnels' own checkout carries a 0.5% fee. Sales sent to Shopify Checkout or Shop Pay are not charged that fee. The trial runs 14 days and asks for no card. Pages, funnels and a custom domain can be set up during the trial.
The gaps are in the Shopify order sync. There is no product import from Shopify, so the offer is set up in ElasticFunnels and matched by SKU. Synced orders do not lower the store's stock count. Tracking numbers do not come back from Shopify. The store connects through a custom app the ElasticFunnels team sets up for that brand.
ElasticFunnels is newer than the platforms it competes with, and there is very little independent third-party review coverage to check its claims against. Until you run real volume through it you are largely taking the vendor's word for it. That is what you would expect of a product that only dates back to 2023. Outside write-ups of the split tests and the order sync are scarce. The pages, the checkout and the sync can still be tried on the card-free trial, and proof at volume will be your own traffic.
Between these two, Shopify is the default when the business is a product list, stock and a store checkout. Override it for Kartra Starter when the offer is a course, a membership or a coaching launch and that same account has to send the mail. Override it for Kartra Growth when affiliates and automations have to live there too.
My take. Kartra, used for stock and shipping, is still a marketing bundle. The store checkout remains a separate bill. Shopify, used for a membership and a launch sequence, means adding apps around the catalog. Decide which of those mistakes you are closer to, then use the free window on that product.
Our default pick
Shopify
Shopify is the default when the business is a catalog, stock and a store checkout. Kartra is the override when the offer is a course, a membership or a coaching launch.

If the buyers are coming from ads and the warehouse still ships from Shopify, open ElasticFunnels and send one paid order into the store before you judge the sync.
