Head-to-head
Flodesk vs Systeme.io
Flodesk sells design-led email priced by subscriber count. Systeme.io starts free with funnels, courses and email. Here is which one fits your business.
Quick answer
Pick Flodesk if you live in the inbox and care more about on-brand email templates than funnel logic; pick Systeme.io if you want funnels, courses and unlimited email sends on a plan that starts free.
The free plans settle it for most creators. Flodesk's free plan builds forms, landing pages and link-in-bio pages but sends nothing, so the list you collect sits idle until you pay. Systeme.io's free tier mails your list from day one.
My take. If your business is a weekly letter and a few digital products sold to readers who like your look, Flodesk earns its monthly fee. If you need a sales funnel, a course area or an affiliate program, I would open a Systeme.io account at no cost and keep the money until the list outgrows it.
Side by side
The two tools you are choosing between, plus one more worth knowing if you run paid ads.
| Tool | Free trial | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Flodesk | Free trial with no card, and a free plan that cannot send email | Creators whose business runs on a well-designed email list |
| Systeme.io | Free plan, no card | Solo founders and creators on a budget |
| ElasticFunnels | 14 days, no card | Teams running paid traffic |
What you are really choosing between
Flodesk is an email platform first. Its homepage sells design-led email: templates that look like a brand, sign-up forms and simple automations, with checkout and sales pages added on its top plan. Systeme.io starts from the opposite end. Its homepage puts funnels, email, courses, a website, affiliates and a CRM under one login.
So the useful question is how much of your business runs through email alone. A writer who sends a weekly newsletter and sells a template pack now and then needs the inbox to look right. A coach who runs a lead magnet into a sales page, then a course and a referral scheme, needs the funnel, and email is one piece of it.
The biggest change since most older comparisons were written is on Flodesk's side. Its pricing page says the flat-rate unlimited plan was retired for new members on 2 December 2025, and new accounts now pay by active subscriber count. That flat rate was the main reason many creators chose Flodesk over a cheaper tool that bundles pages, courses and email, and email marketers on Reddit greeted the change with complaints.
For this page we read both vendors' pricing pages and help docs, Systeme.io's own Flodesk comparison, and user threads on Reddit. We did not run a list through either tool. No thread we found weighs these two against each other directly, so the judgments here combine separate reports about each.
Where each one wins and loses
Flodesk
What works
- The editor and templates are built around brand design, and ease of use is what long-time users praise. A small-business owner looking back on four years with it named that as the reason to stay.
- Every paid plan sends unlimited email, so your bill follows the size of the list and never the number of campaigns.
- Selling through Flodesk Checkout adds no Flodesk fee. Stripe charges its standard processing rate and Flodesk takes nothing on top.
- The Everything plan adds unlimited checkouts, sales pages and funnels, subscriptions, payment plans and abandoned-cart automations, so you can sell to the list without bolting on a second tool.
- You can try the paid features without entering a credit card.
What to watch
- The free plan sends no email and runs no workflows. It collects subscribers on forms, landing pages and a link-in-bio page, and you pay before the first newsletter goes out.
- The flat-rate unlimited plan closed to new members in December 2025. Pricing now climbs with active subscribers, and when you pass a tier Flodesk upgrades you at the next billing date, after warnings at 90%, 95% and 100% of the limit.
- Selling is gated to the top plan. Checkouts, sales pages and funnels come with Everything, and Pro carries only a limited-time bonus of one checkout.
- A creator who moved to Flodesk from a traditional email service listed the lack of A/B testing among the trade-offs.
Systeme.io
What works
- The free plan is genuinely free and permanent: 2,000 contacts, three sales funnels, a course, a blog and unlimited email sends, with no card and no time limit. Most tools this broad charge from day one.
- One login covers what a small business actually does: funnels, an email tool, a course, a simple website, a blog, a booking calendar and your own affiliate program, so you stop paying for and wiring together four separate tools.
- Systeme.io charges no fee on your sales on any plan, including the free one. It takes nothing on top of Stripe or PayPal, which is rare among funnel platforms.
- It is built to be simple. Reviewers consistently call the editor easy to learn, and a first funnel can go live in an hour from a template with no code or hosting to set up.
- The paid tiers are cheap. Even the top self-serve plan costs less than the entry price of several single-purpose competitors.
What to watch
- The page editor and templates are the trade-off. Reviewers describe the templates as functional but forgettable and the builder as limited next to dedicated page tools, so pixel-level design control is not here.
- Split testing is basic. There are simple A/B tests on funnel pages, but nothing like the server-side or multivariate testing a serious paid-traffic team leans on.
- Support is email and chat only, and reviewers report slow replies. One waited three days for an answer to an automation question, and others describe waits of 12 to 19 hours.
- Everything is hosted on Systeme.io's servers, not your own, and the blog and SEO tooling is basic, so it is a weak fit for content-led sites and large ecommerce with complex inventory.
- Email runs on shared IP infrastructure, which is fine for most senders but can become a ceiling at high monthly volumes.
What they cost
The meters differ. Flodesk counts active subscribers and Systeme.io counts contacts. Both send unlimited email on any plan that sends at all, so neither bills you per campaign.
The table assumes a list of up to 1,000 subscribers, because that is the size Flodesk's pricing page uses for its starting prices. At that size Systeme.io's free plan is still sending, so the fair comparison is a paid Flodesk plan against a free Systeme.io one.
One trap while you research: Systeme.io's own Flodesk alternative page still describes Flodesk at one flat monthly price. That is the retired model, so take Flodesk's numbers from Flodesk's page. Systeme.io's tiers come from its pricing page.
| Flodesk | Systeme.io | |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Forms and pages, no sending | 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels, 1 course |
| Billed by | Active subscribers | Contacts |
| Cheapest plan that sends | Lite: $25/mo ($19 yearly) | Free |
| Middle plan | Pro: $28/mo ($25 yearly) | Startup: $17/mo, 5,000 contacts |
| Selling plan | Everything: $54/mo ($49 yearly) | Webinar: $47/mo, 10,000 contacts |
| Top self-serve plan | Everything | Unlimited: $97/mo, no contact cap |
| Funnels and checkout | Everything (Pro: one bonus checkout) | Every plan |
| Platform fee on sales | None (Stripe's rate only) | 0% |
| List outgrows the tier | Auto-upgrade at next bill | Move up a plan |
My take: price both at the list you expect a year from now. Flodesk's bill rises on its own as the list grows, because the tier changes at the next billing date without you choosing it. Systeme.io's rises when you pass a contact limit or need more funnels and courses, and its top plan removes the contact cap altogether.
If you mean to sell inside Flodesk, budget for Everything from the start. Lite and Pro are priced as email plans.
A third option, if you run paid ads
Both tools here are built for an audience you already have. If you buy traffic from Meta, Google or TikTok and the ad lands on an order form, the job is different: you need to test pages without resetting the ad's learning, and you need each order traced back to the ad that paid for it.
ElasticFunnels is a funnel platform for teams running paid traffic. Its lead feature is same-URL split testing, where page variants rotate on the server under one campaign link so the ad platforms keep learning while the test runs. It also generates pages with an AI builder or clones one from a URL, hosts the checkout with order bumps, one-click upsells and subscriptions, and keeps every session, order, rebill and refund on one timeline beside a CRM and automations.
Starter is $97 a month, Growth $197 and Scale $497. Every feature is on every plan, the tiers differ by page views, brands, domains, seats and automation runs, and revenue through its own checkout carries a 0.5% fee. A newsletter, or a course sold to your own list, does not need that much, and either tool above costs less for it.
Its weak spot is outside evidence. ElasticFunnels has been in development since 2023, so it is younger than the platforms it competes with. Few independent reviews exist yet to confirm its testing and attribution claims, and until your own volume runs through it you are going on the vendor's word. The 14-day trial needs no card, which means you can run a same-URL test on your own ads before paying. The full matchup is in ElasticFunnels vs Systeme.io.
For most creators choosing between these two, Systeme.io is the safer default. It sends email from the free plan, carries funnels, a course area and affiliate management on the same login, and takes no cut of your sales. Expect plainer templates than Flodesk's and a busier editor. One Systeme.io user posted in 2026 that the email editor broke and blocked sending. That is a single account, and a test send before any launch is cheap insurance.
Choose Flodesk when the email itself is what your readers see every week, the funnel is short (a form, a welcome sequence, perhaps one offer), and you would rather pay monthly for templates that look like your brand than design them yourself. If selling is part of the plan, go straight to Everything.
Our default pick
Systeme.io
Systeme.io is the pick if you are a solo founder or creator who wants sales funnels, email and an online course in one place, free or cheap, and can live with plain templates and a basic page editor. It is not the tool for a team that needs fine control over page design, heavy A/B testing, or large-scale ecommerce.
